Ad Astra Per Aspera - A Rough Road Leads To The Stars.
After a two-year long battle with cancer Robbie surrendered to the stars on
January 1, 2009
Born on June 29, 1962 in Havre de Grace, Maryland to Jerry and Donelle Moore,
Rob’s passion for mechanics, music, photography and space exploration made him
an eclectic person.
From cars to homes Robbie could fix anything that he came upon. He spent five
years as a Chief Engineer for Holiday Inns before turning to property
maintenance. Rob spent the next 15 years as a Superintendent.
Rob always had a passion for space exploration from his first visit to Florida
in the 1970's. While vacationing in Merritt Island, Florida with his family he
made the decision to relocate to be closer to the space shuttle and the space
program.
Even though Robbie never worked within the space industry it consumed his life.
He was a member of the Commanders Club at Kennedy Space Center, Participant in
the Mars Rover Project and Participant in SETI. With camera in hand he never
missed a space launch – whether it was the Space Shuttle or a rocket, he was
fascinated by it all.
When Rob was diagnosed with kidney cancer and knew he would not survive he began
his bucket list. He was able to finally achieve his goal of flying an airplane
and had the joy of becoming a DJ for the Internet Radio Station FullWave Radio
where the DJ Badfish (aka, "aBadfish2") had a blues-and-rock radio show each
week until he lost the use of his hands and was no longer able.
Robbie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Denise; daughter Brandy; son, Robert
Terry; two grandchildren, Shelbie and Skyler; in-laws, Doug and Patti Smith;
mother, Donelle Moore; grandmother, Leona Moore; stepmother, Beverly Moore;
brothers, Scott and Ricky Moore; nieces, Chelsea, Jillian and Jordyn; and
nephews, Jacob and Zachery. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Moore;
his grandmother, Bea Blanchard; and stepfather, Glen Johnson.
We all have a dream. We have all wished on that first star we see at night at
least once in our life. Never do we really expect it to come true. It's always
just a dream, an illusion. Rob's dream is about to come true. He didn't simply
wish upon that star, Robbie wished he was that star. He always dreamed of going
to space. Now he will, just like he always wanted. Rob will forever be a true
Space Cowboy. Be the star you wish upon. Dreams really do come true.
